Recent studies show that your ankles are a very important part of skateboarding and longboarding. They are attached to your feet which you need to stand on a board (it blew our mind too). Seeing as how integral they are you should probably protect your ankles as best you can!

Maybe you have already hurt your ankle or maybe you are trying to prevent it, either way, an ankle guard is a good place to start. Ankle guards are braces that fit on a rider’s ankle, some feature lace systems, some feature strap systems, and some feature both. At a regular users lever, these braces are relatively soft but provide plenty of lateral support to prevent injuries from occurring in messy situations.

The key to strapping it on properly is to have it fit snug enough to be supportive but not so tight that it cuts off circulation. Ankle braces that are designed more for preventative measures feature a full range of motion. If you need a stiff ankle brace to go ride, then you probably shouldn’t be riding. Give that ankle time to heal and you’ll be riding sooner and harder than ever.
