Bustin Yoface 35” Limited edition graphic (apparently)
Independent 169’s (tried a few reverse kingpin trucks but found it to be too high and too squirly)
Bones Hardcore bushings medium (don’t bother with standard Indy bushings unless you’re a 3 year old, they will pop if you breathe near them)
Metro Motion Micro motion 63mm 83a (I had these laying around and found them the best compromise between hard and soft wheels, harder wheels just iced out as soon as I started sliding and softer wheels just made it feel like a cruiser. Play around until you’re happy with the wheels, but I do suggest these for a bit of everything)
Bones Reds (Strong, cheap, low maintenance and they are red, what more do you want?)
I had never had a Bustin board before, I had never really been interested in them, didn’t know much about them and I didn’t really enjoy their team videos. But after riding this simple, yet amazing board, it inspired me to take another look, and guess what? I LOVE Bustin.
This board is down right awesome, it’s perfect for the street, tech sliding, bowls, banks, half pipes, stairs, ollies, nollies, shuvs and just about anything you can think of doing.
I would compare this board mainly to your standard double kick, but with a few very useful differences. Take the sanded wheel wells which also form concave on top of the deck for example, such a simple yet effective method of creating not only good wheel clearance but also a really solid pocket on top to lock your feet in. The kicks feel great, have A LOT of pop and unlike some other longboard attempts at kicks (cough, looking at you Loaded Dervish) they are actually very useful.
There isn’t really anything bad about this board, I actually can’t think of a single thing to fault in it’s design. The grip tape is super grippy, the kicks work very well, the wheels have good clearance, the concave is really comfortable, hell, even the tails are barely wearing down after dragging them while kookin’ manuals. That being said, they will wear down, for my style of riding (little bit of everything, skating 4-5 times a week and a bit of manualing) I estimate I will get roughly 10 months out of this board before the razor tail starts to get really bad, depending on how aggressively you ride it and drag the tail, could be more or less but this board is definitely strong enough to last you a while but it’s also light.
It’s just fantastic, I think I am in love. I have been searching for a longboard that feels like a skateboard for a while and I am happy to say I have found it. I will seriously be buying one every time the old one breaks, it is just that good. I don’t think my collection of boards will ever be complete without one. If you’re a longboarder and want a nice feeling double kicked/street/park monster, or just want to get into tech slide like me, this is it. If you’re a street/park skater that’s interested in tech sliding or bigger boards and don’t want to dive right into longboards with their drop down, drop through, W concave and gas pedal craziness, but still want that longboard feel, this is your guy. I bought this board when I decided I was going to have a go at tech sliding, I have been practicing a little bit but honestly I found it hard to get out of the skate park and on to the road. I just was having so much fun doing oillies, grinds, manuals, nose manuals, shove its, airing out of transition, pumping transition and kick flips. Not to say this board isn’t a hell of a lot of fun for tech sliding, I feel it was a good choice for me to start out tech sliding as I felt comfortable on it from day one.
I usually don’t like to compare boards and name one better than the other, usually I give my opinion and say “but you should try both and decide what is comfortable and feels good for you” I won’t do that now. I am comparing this board directly to the Landyachtz Loco 35” and believe me when I say I love Landyachtz, they are truly amazing boards, but the Bustin Yoface is SO, SO, SO, SOOOOO much better, 10048747388373 times better even. The concave on the Loco is flat and boring, the grip tape is a lot less grippy, the kicks aren’t symmetrical but this annoying “old school” nose pointed, tail squared crap and there are no wheel wells at all. In my opinion the only benefit of the Loco is it’s slightly cheaper (Bustin Yoface 35” = $139 AUD vs Landyachtz Loco 35” = $109 AUD) But in my opinion it is well worth the extra $30. This board has just completely changed my mind about Bustin and I look forward to trying and reviewing more of their boards in the future.
