They slide really well but they flatspot pretty quickly if you not careful.
I have been enjoying these wheels for about a week now, they took a couple runs to break in and made a good bit of noise during that time. But after they broke in they were a solid wheel. Leave descent thane lines and have a really glidey, floaty slide. They wear pretty quickly and I have had some flat spotting issues, but other than that a great drifty freeride wheel.
Best sliding wheel IMO
I have tried Abec 11 freerides 78a,BO Morgans 65 and 70,S9 Butterballs 65, and the Volante checkers are still nicer. I find them exceptionally smooth with a little bit of an icier feeling but not to much. And I don't find them to flatspot or oval all that easily so so far these wheles are my favorite i am going to continue to buy them.
These wheels had very controllable , very smooth slides. It felt like the perfect mix of smoothness so you dont ice out , but you will never lock up either. Only issue with this wheel , considering i slide about 25 to 30 ft and weigh about 160 lbs. these wheels BARELY THANED . Not that that matters too much , they just wore down suprisingly fast for a very unnoticeable thane line. Also , when the wheel got very small (down to core) it started sliding poorly ,but whats to expect ?
Overall: should you get this wheel?
The answer is yes , unless you love thane lines.
There not really good or really bad
There the weirdest wheels I've ever slid on... There smooth very predictable don't thane to much BUT if ur looking for something a bit different these are what your looking for
Holy Crap Dat Slide

nice predictable slides
These are some good wheels having had a lot of experience with Some of the best sliding wheels I would say these are high up on my list.
Setup: apex 40 DD, caliber 50s, sector 9 butterballs.

REally nice wheels they break in easily but they are really easy to flatspot
i honestly like these wheels better than my butterballs. it just took me to runs to break the wheels in. At first they are a bit choppy, after that they slide so smooth! downside is that i wore them down after a few skate seshs.
One of the best freeride wheels
nate the great
If you are looking for one of the best freeride wheels ever, BUY THESE. Checkers are super smooth, controllable and predictable. They do thane a ton so they have a short life. Mine lasted me 4-5 hours of super hard riding on wheel-eating pavement
They wear down very very fast. a bit choppy but not bad. they dont thane for awhile. but once theyre worn in, super thick juicy thanelines. i really like these wheels.

smooth slide but unprediable
These wheels are prime. I've had a lot of wheels like tweakeds race forms butterballs these wheels kmfsus sidewinders and Morgan's but I must say these are the best. They have an extremely pleasant release and buttery slide. They feel like chalk in a good way like you are just sliding into the road and not over it. Also they leave than that looks like chalk lines haha. On the plus side they last a lot longer then you would expect. They lasted me a good five days which I was damn stoked about. Trust me. Get them. You won't be disappointed.
Good freeride wheel. In comparision to the butterballs I find them to not be as smooth, and a bit icier. Still this is probably due to the 82a thane. I can't get these to leave even a hint of Thane lines though, and they have been worn down 8mm! I weigh almost 160lbs too! So anyways, don't know whats going on there. They are also moderately loud, much louder than butterballs. Not to mention that the graphic will be gone in a week tops. This still is all nitpicky, definitely a good wheel, would recommend.
PS. they don't seem to flatspot too bad but I have felt little ones starting, so just be careful.
these were probably my favorite wheels i had. They thane a lot and they feel like a snowboard when doing anything but they are also predictable. These wheels are my favorite at freeride
i put thesse bad boys on my dk for tech sliding and they are simply the best i love them but they can be chaky at times and after briken in they thane alout and flatpot easy but thats not a biggy they cor right aroun the comet logo and get icy whenthey are lipped but otherwise they are really really great wheels i love them they are amazing buy them
These wheels are pretty good. Out of the box, and down to about 60mm, they slide similar to that of a 99a skateboard wheel. Pretty icy, brown thane lines, dont sound great at all, and flatspot really easy. At this stage they are amazing for slower, more technical freeride but they oval extremely easy so you probably don't want to do those more technical maneuvers like no-complies and slide shuvits. But when they wear down and the contact patch gets a little bigger, they are amazing for fast freeride because they develop a super smooth, chalky slide that dumps the 'thane, and have a surprising amount of grip for their size. These wheels lasted me about a month of riding while my flashbacks lasted me 4 months, so a double thumbs down for durability. This wheel rides like an 82a wheel, but slides like a 78a wheel. they also have an average acceleration and don't hold speed worth crap. I don't think these wheels are worth how much they cost and if you want a wheel that slides and leaves thane like a 78a wheel, buy a 78a wheel.
only the best
You wouldn't believe the performance of these wheels! they are excellent for all kinds of slides i.e. pendys, standies, 180s! the best wheel i've owned by far!
I'm on my second set. the first was great it didn't leave thane until it got past like 60mm the it left phat lines. I actually cored one like 1mm from the bearing. i find that they slide like a 80a wheel in that they shed a fair amount of speed especially when they were thaning. Also my first set did have some ovals but now mine are completely round. thats because i didnt have good form then though. Hands down favorite wheel. looking forward to trying the Morgans when DADDIES GETS THEM IN STOCK!
new favorite freeride wheel
on the third day god said make the awesomest freeride wheel!! and volante created the checker... these bad boys are sick, have the smoothest slide ive ever ridden, they leave some really nice lines not to thick were it wears like a bitch but not to small were its a shetty slide. if you want to freeride, put your board side ways, own a double kick, have the best slides of your life buy checkers!! if not i promise you'll regret it.
After breaking in these wheels they are so sweet..leave the sickest thane..only con is they flatspot very fast after a couple big slides.
these wheels rock!!!
i recently got these wheels, and after a few slides being broken in, they left THANE! and not only that, but the whole day they didn'twear down a single mm! if your not leaving thane right away on these bad boys, it means your not sliding correctly. please check these out, they are awesome!!!! Warning: the graphic does easily come off which is a bummer cause its kick-ass but still. BUY THESE WHEELS!
I've had these wheels for about 2 weeks. At first you have to break them in and they suck but all wheels usually do in the breaking in period. After you break them in they are so smooth and have a great controlled slide in my opinion. Literally every slide you do leaves a sick, thick, white thane line. The only down side is I haven't had them that long and I can only hold standies for about 15ft and they have worn A TON. They aren't really durable at all and I have flat spotted all of them. They are also loosing lots of speed now and aren't as controlled because they are under 60mm. But overall good, fun wheels and I would defiantly consider giving them a try!!!!
Greatest Wheels I've ever owned.
THESE WHEELS. BUY THEM. If you're looking at buying them, seriously, do it! I've never been this satisfied with a wheel as much as the Volante Checkers! They leave the gnarliest thane ever! and they dont wear down fast at all like Abec wheels. These wheels hand off the icyest slides that not even the big names could give you. These blow any wheels out of the water big time. BUY THEM, and enjoy riding(:
