As a fan of all type of skating, I'm super stoked about this event. And plan on making it this year. The last time Timeship Racing and the Skate School in New Mexico put on this event was in 2006. Since then they have had annual Ditch Racing but nothing as all-around as this event that includes many events. Here is the scoop from the organizer: During this 2 day event Skate School will challenge riders to bring their best skills to several kinds of skateboarding and will award an "Overall Title". All Around Skating has been gaining momentum once again among riders, their teams and a growing number of brands. Tony Alva will present the Overall Awards for Male, Female and Best Team and lend help in making the event as professional as possible. This event will crown the "World`s Best Overall Skateboarder", a title that has not been `properly` awarded since Tony last won it in 1978! He also loves skating in ABQ! Riders will compete in Slalom, Bowl, Street and BoarderX. 3 elective events will also help show who has the most well rounded skate skills. It’s important that each discipline represents the current level of competition, there will be no easy courses or terrain to accommodate ANYONE. Specialists need not apply! There will be NO awards for individual events, this is an Overall and you must compete in all of the events! Giant Slalom: Will be single lane and racers will hit speeds up to 35 mph as they negotiate a difficult course against the clock and avoid hitting cones which have time penalties. Tight Slalom: Will be head to head, racers will hit speeds up to 20 mph as they negotiate a difficult course against the clock and each other avoiding hitting cones which have time penalties. Bowl and Park: Los Altos Skate Park is nearby with 35,000 sq ft. of concrete including a large street and flow area, bowls, banks and a 10 ft. deep combi-pool. Each rider will get 3 runs in the bowls and will be scored higher for riding the deep ones, degrees of difficulty or just going big! Street Style: We’ll use the same hill the next day and set a challenging Street Style course at the top incorporating plenty of urban obstacles like benches, boxes, rails, jumps and cars. Then we’ll throw in some even bigger surprises as they head down the hill where speeds will pick up and riders can show their sliding skills and high speed style. BoarderX: This race will be held Sunday afternoon after the Street Style. Racers will race through a variety of urban obstacles, jumps, barricades and crazy short cuts. Speeds up to 30 mph with plenty of room for riders to dice it up, pass or fall. We will first run the BoarderX for the athletes in the All Around Challenge ONLY. Then we will have an Open Class for everyone else that wants to compete, All Around participants can race in the Open Class for free.
