The all-new Prism Origin: for the traditionalist. With roots deeply seated in NorCal, this board was designed for the gnarliest of riding, mountain bombing, and it's a slide jam killer. This board takes everything you need, with none of the flash or flare. This board features a 1/2-inch of radial concave, to give you the perfect medley of comfort, and control. This board was designed for speed, with variable wheelbases between 27.5-28.5 inches. The Origin is topped off with slide nose and tail, to complete the whole package.

slide or go fast - versatile DH, totally love it!
(I'm a beginner, chicken out at anything faster than 45mph, can do comfortable hands-down pre-drifts and speed checks over chunder, toe-side and heel-side, love tight turns and steep city routes, but never practiced standup slides yet. Insta: @tc_thinkstorm)

The drops together with the W and concave really lock me in and give me great feedback where my feet are. Both heel side and toe side are more stable and it is easier to direct the board around the street, push it into hookup, or maneuver around traffic.

A side-by-side comparison with my previous deck -- Liam's Arbor Pro Model -- definitely confirmed that the Theory is more aggressive and more direct. It's so much better and refined!

The stronger concave let's me put more weight onto the rails = outside of the board = more leverage to turn, and the micro drops allows me to kick the board more around without losing my footing, and I get very direct feedback of the road. The W prevents axial torsion and gives me a more even truck behavior between front and back truck. Turns feel less 'swimmy' and more direct and controlled (front and back truck can turn more the same angle and the board is less over or under steering and pushy)

My initial thought was "more nervous and less stable" until I realized that the board is just much more direct and needs less effort and weight shifting. It's a bit less forgiving than the Liam's Arbor model - and that's a good thing.

Initially when "dry-mounting and testing", I tightened the trucks more down to prevent wheel bite. When I set up the trucks with similar tension as the Arbor it seemed to easily come down to the wheels, and the wheel wells of the Prism seemed to be in the wrong spot when mounted in the back position. I then realized while riding that for whatever reason I would never really get the board that far down and loosened the screws quite a bit before I felt it could become a problem. So the trucks are lose again and maneuverability is great, no wheel bite. My hunch is that either the micro drop or stronger concave puts more leverage on the kingpin; or the W making the board stiffer against axial torsion and now the pressure from both feet are transmitted to the trucks. Whatever it is: tighten the trucks, and then slowly ease off while riding and monitor wheel bite and how lose the board feels.

That out of the way, I experimented side-by-side with same Caliber II trucks and same Blood Orange Morgan Pro 65mm red (82A) wheels, but different truck mount positions -- I was lucky enough to have two Prism Theory decks to compare.

With both trucks in the forward position/holes, the front foot is further away from the axle pivot point, the back foot is closer to the back pivot point. When carving hard I suddenly did little standup drifts, drifts became more sideways and wider, hookup was more sudden, and the wheels feel more grippy as weight distribution is more even. I felt less in control at higher speeds down South Park Drive and XXXXXXXX when going fast, the board seemed more nervous and direct, though the slides started way earlier and more sideways, pressure on both feet was higher, and the hookup almost threw me a few times. Once used to it, I could do insane curves and inside lines, sudden changes in direction, almost 90 degree, keeping the speed.

With both trucks in the backward position the front foot is closer to the front pivot point. The board feels significantly more stable and more directional - just think about going down a hill wih your front foot in the middle of the board versus to the way front close to the front axle. Slides are now a bit harder to initiate but often the back wheels keep scrubbing through curves. The back feels nice and loose, much easier to do little corrections during drifts. The hookup is smoother and more directional. Drifts are pivoting tighter around the front foot. Higher speeds are easier to control for me. I will keep sliding and scrubbing, though, so I do have to be a bit more careful not to pre-drift too late to avoid getting into the opposite lane. But overall this setup is definite more forgiving and easier to ride for my style and I like it much better. But it really depends on your style.

Both trucks mounted on the inside holes makes it insanely shifty and it feels like a really small board. I bet it's super easy to do 360s and 180 free ride slides (which I never practiced yet). Both trucks outside, on the other hand, does not increase stability significantly over both trucks forward, and is somewhat more uncomfortable to ride because neither of the above first two setups and properties are expressed enough. It's just weird.

I think a slightly shorter axle than the 180mm Caliber II I had would increase stability and grip if one would really want to go faster. But I *love* the control around the corners, the direct feeling, the way I can get myself out of sticky situations and correct mistakes, the way I can go over chunder and iron covers and be absolutely locked in. The dips between the W and the Concave and the Micro-Drops are absolutely beautiful. I am definitely skating safer and are more in control. I went through four wheel sets and didn't flat spot a single one. I can slide almost anywhere, over almost anything. Much more control.

When robots take over the world, it will surely be more or less like when humans did: Some will be jerks, some will gather all the power, and some will just want to shred.
