Controllable AF, and FAST
Firstly, both the 78a and 80a are good, but the 80a is more of a workhorse that doesn't quite feel as nice as the 78a, but gets the job done. 78a is significantly more buttery and feels more like a typical freeride wheel in the slide. Much smoother kickout and hookup as you can feel the urethane tearing away like butter, whereas the 80a feels much sharper on kickout and has a very quick hookup, which can catch you off guard if you're not used to it. Definitely recommend starting with 78a's if you're not used to RAD thane. The 80a can also squeal a bit at low speeds.

Both are very grippy wheels that kill a lot of speed, but that also makes them very controllable and easier to pull slides at higher speeds. They're my go to when I'm not sure if I'll be freeriding, pulling predrifts down hills, or making slower tech runs to scout new slopes.

Both the core and the high reflex urethane make this wheel have awesome roll speed. You definitely notice it. I always find myself having to pull more speed checks when skating behind my friends to stop myself catching up to them.

Bearing seat is all good. Nice tight fit, but bearing isn't crazy hard to remove like on These Wheels or Sector 9's new Cosmic Cores they run on Butterballs. Wheel will also last you a long time. Pretty slow wearing, especially the 80a.

Only downsides are if you're a light weight rider, you may find these too grippy unless your hauling, would recommend trying the 78a Glides if that's you, and also the 80a thane does tend to chunk (though it's normally just from riding over rocks & objects, or up curbs that are too high). Chunking usually isn't too bad though unless you're super near the core and the wheels at the end of its life anyway.

Even still, some of my favourite, go-to wheels to date.
These wheels have good slides, but they give u a lot of kickback.
Great wheels
At first the slide was choppy but then. a couple standies later I broke the initial stone ground finish off and bamn! The slide was so smoooooooooooth! The slide feels like butter but almost feels like your gliding over the pavement as well. The 80a releases are great wheels for people that want grip but slide out smoothly.

Take this shit seriously dude, don't be a lil bitch
dese nips are exquisite
Long life 4 ever
I have test both 78a and 80a.
i ride the 80a for my weight (60kg) it's the great deal. First out of the box they're slide pretty nice. After cupple seshs they beggin to make noise and grip a lot but always smooth.
now I have them for like 6 month (1.5 months of intense hard seshs with them) and they aren't dead (like 48mm now 20.11.13)
so i use those for fast standies and freeride.
go take a set!
RAD's are rad
ive had these wheels for about 2 weeks and have had a couple of pretty decent sessions on them, they slide very weirdly before the stone ground is off but when you get through that they slide beautiful and leave a decent amount of thane, overall a great intermediate to advanced freeride wheel and also good for some dh
My Beginner Downhill Wheel
I purchased these wheels because I wanted a downhill wheel that had some grip, but that would slide easily too. Now these wheels are dubbed as freeride wheels but for first getting into downhill (25 to 35 mph) they are perfect. At 72mm they are bigger than 70mm and don't give me wheel bit like 75mm wheels. Crown core and other aspects make them fast wheels. The urethane is absolutely amazing. Cruising they feel better than any of my other six wheels. The feeling of the slide is just as good probably better than abec 11 classic thane. Now that I've downhilled on the wheels and shed a few mm with long colemans, standup slides are super fun and not as grippy. I'm always going to own a RAD wheel in my set.
Good freeride wheel
These wheels are really good they're super durable and slide amazing but i would say these wheels are at their best when sliding fast as they are super predictable only downside is you to wear them down quite a few mm before they start sliding really well.
These wheels are amazing. They don't slide to their full potential until you're going pretty fast, but they are super predictable and buttery. They last a pretty long time, and thane a bunch on the big slides. I did my first seventy and eighty foot standies on these wheels, and they are definitely worth the money.
I dont have these, i was thinking about getting them though . Are these good cruising wheels for just like small hills and slow slides?
Super shreddy!
These wheels are fantastic, literally the only thing I don't like about them is that they don't leave thane lines after a slide. the slides are smooth, not chattery, and can be held for a long time. the release point is great and easy to get the full 180 rotation. also they are super fast and pick up speed like no other wheel and are great for high speed as well as slower sliding and tricks. overall, this wheel is unbelievable and probably one of the most well rounded wheels of all time. What else do you expect from Kevin Reimer and James Kelly though.
one of the sickest set of wheels ive ever had
ive had the 80a's for about 4 months and they are absolutely sick. they slide so smooth and easy and never ice out. i highly reccomend these.
hated them way to grippy
Simply amazing!
I learned 180 standies with these after struggling with my orangatang stimuli for weeks. Get the 80a for amazing slowspeed slides and huge fast slides.
The name says it all!
Ive had the 78a version of these wheels for about 5 weeks now, they are very smooth right out box and leave wide faint that lines. they are particle good at speed as they are very predictable and don't ice out like other wheels on the market. however i havent had these wheels for very long and they have worn about 15mm which is alot for me because im very lite (55kg) , and another negative is they slow alot during slides as the are such a low hardness. would recommended getting the 80a for that reason.

Simply Amazing
I have the 80a's on a Original Freeride 41 'Beast' w/ W-concave and calibur 50's and i love them on the first day with both (i got them together) i was throwing 180's in parking garage on my first run. They SHRED right off the bat no break in required. Even though there big you still get nice smooth spins at slower speeds. Compared to the O-tang 83a Stim's I rode they are more consistent in there slides and breaking point, plus they only make noise on slow speed slides. They grip great except when your getting in the high 30's they didn't lose grip when i was jamming carves but you could them starting to break contact. So overall Awesome all around wheel just for really high speeds get 78a's. But these are great I highly recommend them.
RAD quite literally
Simply they are fast and will grip a beautiful line but at the same time when you break out they are chatter free, quiet, and quiet when sliding. They slide better than Metro Motions even though they will grip more because of the contact patch as contradictory as that is. Just a great wheel!

The R.A.D. Release wheels are designed to let you release your inner freeriding beast. James Kelly and Louis Pilloni, the founders of R.A.D. Wheels are monsters on the hills. If you haven't seen any of their freeriding videos then do yourself a favor and go watch some. The R.A.D. Release wheels have a big crown core that creates a dense hold around your bearing. This gives you an overall higher roll speed and smoother slides. They are a center-set, stone-ground, and round-lipped wheel that get better and better as you wear into the different layers of urethane. The 78a option has a lot of grip so they will really perform best when freeriding at higher speeds, otherwise they do have a tendency to grip up rather quick. The 80a option is great for mild speeds and will last a little bit longer than the 78a's. These wheels are truly an amazing wheel and are definitely taking the longboarding world by storm.
